Sunday saw the return of the annual Roach Valley Way Relay, a fantastic race that is run in 4 legs, each 4 person team having one member running each leg. Approximately 23 miles in total, starting in Rochford Square and heading out through Cherry Orchard into Hockley Woods and Hawkwell, the next leg takes you from Hawkwell up through Ashingdon then across to Canewdon finishing at the church. Leg 3 a lovely long downhill start as you run through Canewdon and down towards the River Crouch then along the sea wall around to Paglesham. Finally leg 4 takes the runners on an extended run out through the countryside towards the River Roach, following its sea wall until you find yourself back in Rochford Square. Every leg is different and throws up it’s own challenges especially on a warm sunny day like Sunday but our runners do love it and it raises money for the wonderful Havens Hospice, £2500 this year and over £15,753 since it started 9 years ago.
Big congratulations to Ian, Karen, Colin and Tom whose Rochford Running Club team “Ignorance is Blisters” won the competion.
